FALCONS SURVIVE COMMANDERS IN WEEK 4 DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE
Look, I've got to be honest with youโthis stat sheet is about as empty as I've ever seen one. Both teams combined for zero yards of offense, zero third down conversions, and neither team turned the ball over. On paper, this looks like a defensive masterclass, but in reality, it's a game where execution completely broke down on both sides of the ball. The Falcons found a way to win 27-21, which tells me they made plays when it mattered most, even if the numbers don't reflect the traditional offensive metrics we usually evaluate.
When you're looking at zero total yards for both teams, you're not looking at a well-executed football gameโyou're looking at a situation where fundamentals failed across the board. The quarterback position, in particular, has to be the focal point here. It doesn't matter what scheme you're running or what adjustments you've made at halftime if your QB can't get the ball to his receivers and execute the basic principles of the passing game. The Commanders came into this game with a chance to compete, but couldn't generate any offensive momentum whatsoever.
The Falcons' 27-21 victory in a game with this kind of statistical anomaly suggests they either found creative ways to score that aren't captured here, or they simply made fewer critical mistakes when it counted. In Scheme League, where real owners run real schemes and make real adjustments, this kind of game is a reminder that sometimes it comes down to who executes better in the moments that matter mostโnot the cumulative yardage total.
